A 'Shankha' or conch is shell of a large sea snail (Turbinella pyrum) found in the Indian Ocean. In ayurvedic system, its powerful cosmic vibrations are also believed to destroy disease-causing germs in the atmosphere and cure many physical ailments (i.e. skin, stomach, teeth) by drinking the water kept overnight in the 'Shankha'.
