Prayer Malas and beads are used to chant specially certain mantras repetitive. The beads can be Rudrakshya, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Crystal, wood, Bodhichitta etc. In one complete mala there are 108 beads. If the beads are bigger there can be 54 beads. In bracelet normally there are 27 pieces.
